artist in residency period and a solo show at Haus34a in Bad Bentheim (de)
During her residency period in Haus34a Barbara Rink has been taking in the surrounding landscape, the abandoned quarries and the chapel in the Bentheimer castle. A desire to dissolve in the landscape and finding solace in the external world, led to walks and wanderings reflecting on the dramatics of how one moves through these kind of spaces. These personal experiences, together with the stay in Haus34a resulted in her new installation Spill. Rink approaches the space scenographic; moving through the rooms of Haus34a towards an inner ‘sanctum’. She uses her abstract and painterly idiom to create sensory moments in space. Looking for a fluidity between painting and sculpture. The painterly placed outside of the frame as a spilling of the internal into the external and vice versa
